Don’t have lot of room? Try vertical gardening

Last year I incorporated my small kitchen garden into our flower beds around our front porch. It was a very manageable garden and my flowers and shrubs benefited from it greatly. I’m going to expand it a bit this year, but I like the thought of vertical gardening because it’s still using a smaller space. For me, smaller spaces mean that I will keep the veggies growing and it’s easy to manage.

This link has a nice multi tiered box structure that looks easy to construct.

LOL, this one is in an over the door shoe hanger.

About 12,000 alpacas dead

http://www.livinginperu.com/news/14319

Low temperatures and persistent rains in the high zones of Ayacucho have caused the death of over 70 percent of the bred alpacas in the region. The devastating natural conditions have affected about 9,000 families in southern Ayacucho (Sucre, Lucanas, Parinacochas, Victor Fajardo, Huancasancos and Páucar del Sara Sara) where the majority of the alpaca population is located, as well as the most important wool-producing communities.

Alarmed by the massive mortality rate, which has claimed about 12,000 stock according to preliminary estimates, representatives from the region have requested help from the regional and national government in the form of food, medicine, vitamins and shelter that will allow them to protect and save the few recently-born animals that are still alive.

Representative Juan Meza said that the value of losses surpasses 3 million soles.

I’m in a pearl kind of mood

I’ve been making pearl and wire bracelets for the last few days. The one of was working on today, I just couldn’t stop. I used shell beads, freshwater pearls in two colors and 14kt gold filled wire. Gold filled is not the same as gold plated. Gold filled is heirloom quality gold and should last more than a few life times with proper care. $65 plus shipping.

12 and a half inches long

Are you really buying local?

Support your local farmers and be informed about where you can buy their product. Your local farmers markets are a great place to start and with spring right around the corner, fresh produce is also.

What to do with your left over milk

Well this article is probably meant for farmers that have dairy animals, but you might be like me and always have a little milk left in the gallon right before it turns. I’ve been pouring mine down the drain, but will be pouring it on my plants in the future. I see my parsley and chives are all coming back strong.

Shots done for another month

Gave shots today – monthly ivermectin inoculation. Despite the monsoon, it went very smoothly. First dosage for new boys – Dale, Jammers and Sneakers. Did a little halter training yesterday as well (Sookie, Jack and Roux).
